Five Simple "Workouts"

From the Zone Diet

Incidental exercise is the movement you make in your everyday life that can burn fat — often, without you even knowing it! And that's good news, because it means you can include activities that happen outside of the gym and away from the running track when totaling up your fitness minutes every day!

Here are five ideas for "workouts" that you may be already doing:

1. Gardening is a great workout for your arms, back, and legs. True gardening fanatics can spend hours tending their beds, but even 10 minutes of pulling, whacking, and digging counts.

2. The brisk 10-minute walk between the parking lot or bus stop and the office totals 20 minutes round-trip. Take the stairs, if possible, to increase aerobic benefits.

3. Do you spend your life on the phone? Then walk while you talk on a cell or cordless phone. Before you hang up, be sure to check the minutes spent on each call, using the standard feature on most new phones. You may be surprised!

4. If you take small children to the playground, avoid the park bench and get out and play. Your kids will love it and so will you.

5. Hate housework? You might enjoy it more if you saw vacuuming, scrubbing the floor, and even ironing as a great way to burn calories.
