Russian Fish Soup Kalja

It is possible to screen your favorite ethnic recipes for carb content. It is also possible to de-carb them the same way you de-fat the recipes for low-fat cooking

Ingredients:

 3 lb. fat fish (salmon, trout) cut into large pieces
11/2 liters water
2 pickles, cubed
1 cup juices from pickles
3 potatoes
1 1/2 lemons
1 leek
1 sprig parsley, root and greens
1 carrot
10 peppercorns
1/4 t saffron powser
1 t marjoram

Cook the broth the same way as in the Cod Ukha recipe. Boil the pickle juice and add to the vegetable broth. Add the pickles and fish, boil for 8 to 20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the pieces. Add leek, parsley greens, marjoram and saffron; boil for 30 seconds. Cover the pot with towels and let stand for 20 minutes. Serve with lemon wedges.
